By Gursel Batmaz

A successor to the highly acclaimed TravelMate 8100 series, the TravelMate 8204 was created to impress inside and out. Sporting a revamped style, it’s composed of a carbon fiber chassis combined with Acer’s Folio design theme, exemplifying a modern and sleek design that appears to descend in the 22nd century.

Everyone will appreciate the new functions and cutting-edge technologies incorporated into this sleek laptop. It is filled with a robust set of functions, such as the new Intel Core Duo T2500 (2. GHz) processor, a whopping 2GB DDR2 RAM, and a massive 120GB Serial ATA hard drive. Other prominent functions consist of a high-resolution 15.4-inch widescreen show, modular DVD RW drive, built-in rotating Internet Camera, and VoIP Bluetooth phone!

Avid gamers will be really satisfied with the overall performance from the mid-range yet effective ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with 256MB DDR VRAM and AVIVO technology, whilst business professionals will appreciate the Smart Card feature, providing additional security from unauthorized access. The near-perfect Acer TravelMate 8204 WLMi is an attractive package: it’s effective, combines quite a few new functions, and is just darn sexy. Of course for $2500, it is one of the more costly laptops available.

The instant appeal from the TravelMate 8200 lies in its Folio design theme, which is Acer’s name for its unique style found in numerous their laptops. In addition, the two tone inverted color scheme keeps it clean and simple, with carbon fiber wrapping close to the top lid while graphite grey covers the area around the palm rest and computer keyboard area. Addititionally there is a touch of glossy black trim above the keyboard and in the bottoom of the outside lid for additional style.

Two stiff hinges hold the LCD panel together, located near every corner from the show. The LCD panel consists of dual latches that assist in keeping the lid securely closed, preventing any kind of movement when shuffling the laptop computer around. When shut the screen hovers slightly over the keyboard and palm rest area, reinforced by eight rubber pads to prevent the screen from touching the computer keyboard and wrist region.

There’s two sets of status indicators found on the pc, the first is upon the upper-right corner above the computer keyboard (below the show screen) and also the second set is on the front of the computer. The upper-right corner below the display contains indicators for hard disk, caps lock, and num lock. All indicators emit a green glow when activated.

Conveniently upon the front panel are some extremely useful indicator lights which supply a quick glance in the power, battery charge, Bluetooth, and Wireless LAN. Both the energy and battery status indicators emit a green glow when active (or amber for the battery when it’s charging) whilst the Bluetooth and Wireless LAN buttons emit a dazzling blue and amber glow, respectively. The Bluetooth and Wireless LAN are buttons used to enable or disable its associated purpose.

Located on the upper correct hand corner are four launch keys to instantly launch your frequently used applications. Every button is designated for Email, internet browser, Acer Empowering crucial, and a user programmable option. The Email button is used to launch your E-mail client, such as Microsoft Outlook; however, additionally it is user programmable to designate other applications. The internet browser crucial is utilized to launch your favorite internet browser, but it’s also user programmable. The Acer Empowering key (’e’ symbol) is used to launch the Acer eManager application (more on this in the software section). Lastly the user programmable button is obtainable so that you can assign your favorite application via the Launch Manager software program. Sadly there isn’t any multimedia hot keys (i.e. volume adjustment) despite the available room close to the top section from the keyboard.

Algar

By Edward Walsner

Spain, this European country is one of the leaders in the tourism industry. Spain has many places of interest for the tourists. Blessed with the vast beach of the Mediterranean Sea and many mountains which run parallel to the sea; Spain has splendid natural beauty. The islands and rich vegetations around its great rivers are the other places which would be of interest to the visitor. Spain has a rich history dating back to several thousands of years BC. It was the home for many civilizations like the Celts, Moors, Romans, etc. During the rule of these civilizations several castles, churches, cathedrals, etc. were built.

Although most of these constructions have been destroyed due to passage of time, the Government of Spain has been successful in preserving thousands of these constructions. They speak of the great heritage of Spain. Now these places have become places of tourist attraction.

One unique feature in Spain is that every city, town, village, however big or small; has something or the other which is of interest for the tourist. One such place of interest is Algar which is one of the places which attracts a large number of tourists throughout the year. This tiny city in the province of Cadiz with a population of about 1700 inhabitants is rich in natural beauty. Interestingly this tiny city has many things to offer the tourists.

The great natural waterfall called the Les Fonts de Algar is one of the places of interest which has been attracting a large number of tourists round the year. Along the waterfall are the swimming pools formed out of the natural water springs. Local people say that these swimming pools have medicinal value because they are formed by the natural springs. Along the path of this natural waterfall, a walkway has been formed and this is the most ideal place for those who enjoy walking.

The walk path is filled with natural vegetation like Bamboo groves and many herbs which have great medicinal value. Apart from this, for the convenience of the tourists; several bath areas have been formed. On the top of the bathing area, facilities like dining table, chairs, etc. have been provided where the tourist can enjoy his picnic.

This tiny city has a railway museum which also attracts a large number of visitors. The museum has many photographs showing the growth of the railway industry in Spain. Some of the old railway engines, coaches, etc. are also on display. By visiting this museum one can get a vivid picture of the working of the Railways.

How You Can Not Miss Your Next Bali Vacation

By Chris Sims

What is it about Ubud that one should visit this beautiful village? Because Ubud has much to offer; from its stunning panorama of Ayung River valley and the terraces rice filed, its most talented artist, its typical traditional market and myriad of shops that line the road is a heaven for shopping, its undying culture, its serene environs and plentiful of nice small hotels and restaurants and many more.

Ubud has no great beaches to speak of, no mountain lakes, and no grand hotels. Yet it has the richness of soil and it is the center of Bali’s art and culture. If you don’t stay in Ubud, or you don’t have much time during your Bali Holiday, a visit is worth because it would offer you a memorable stay in Bali.

Driving out of bustling Denpasar, the tranquil green of rice paddies contrast sharply with the boisterous sounds of the city. Palm-leaf carvings of Dewi Sri (the Rice Goddess) guards over the crops, and small thatch huts dot the rice fields, giving shade to those who work them. Temples and small shrines can be seen along the way, women lay out offerings of flowers, rice, incense and holy water to placate evils spirits and please the good one. Even with the great influx of tourism, village life basically goes on the same. Almost every village on the way up to Ubud specializes in some kind of art form. You can stop off and see the artisans at work in their studios.

Many places near Ubud make beautiful side trips. Morning walk through the villages lead to out-of-the-way retreats. The route to Tegalalang offer beautiful views of terraces rice field and myriad of art studios, Mas, Penestanan and Peliatan, the centers of wood carving and painting, Sayan offer a stunning panorama of Ayung River valley and still home to spectacular view of gorges and palms and rice fields. Campuhan , the place where three rivers meet - a sacred site. There is a very beautiful temple called Pura Gunung Lebah is worth a visit.

To the north is Petulu village is known for many things but the most spectacular is the kokokan or white herons. Every morning at dawn and the afternoon around three or four o’clock, you can see them circling the trees in droves.

To the south a short walk you will arrive at Monkey Forest. To visit it, one must by a ticket. There are hundreds of tame monkeys and a temple stands in the middle of the forest. In the center of town the interesting places to see are the Puri (the court of palace of former kings), here every Sunday morning at 10 o’clock dozen of young girls study traditional Balinese dance. Ubud main market just opposite the Puri offer varieties of merchandises; Produce, dry goods, linens, T-shirts, paintings, wood carvings, even traveling medicine men appear here. Closed to market you can visit Puri Lukisan (Museum of Paintings). Established in 1954, it is dedicated to showing the works of local painters. It is the excellent place to get an overview of the stylistic differences between artists.

Ubud is a picturesque township and visitors have been attracted by its charm and beauty for decades. If shopping is your interest, Ubud has a myriad of shops which line the road to Monkey Forest and the Museum Puri Lukisan. Don’t forget to bargain!!! If art is your interest, in Ubud, Mas and Peliatan, one can study dance, music, painting or a number of other art forms. The best way to meet a teacher is to find a style that appeal to you (by going to galleries and watching performances) and than approach the artist directly about lessons.

While you are in Ubud and need more complete information, you can visit Bina Wisata a local Tourism Bureau. It prepare map of Bali and Ubud. There is a massage board, small book store and a printing press on the premises. It’s about 500 m past the market.

Waka Namya Resort is a nice place to stay. It offers free luxury shuttle service to the center of town and to the Rudana Museum and Arts Gallery; it is one of the best galleries in Ubud. It also offers a free tracking to the rice field. Excellent service and very friendly staffs. I know the manager very well, so I sand many guests to this resort. Waka di Ume, Komaneka, Santi Mandala Resort and Maya Ubud are also very nice place to stay. For more affordable accommodation you can choose Ubud Sari; small, charming and rustic ambience. It has a complete Spa and Beauty Salon service, Yoga, Chiropractic, Healing Week in Bali Program. Raw Health Food Program and Colonic Hydrotherapy.

So Ubud has many attractive objects can be seen for your Bali Vacation. And do not hesitate to choose beautiful Bali for your holiday. Bali is a small, beautiful island in Indonesia, the ultimate tourist destination in Asia.

Special Needs And Flying Solution

By Daniel Pott

You might think about the ease of traveling with a private jet charter company. You may think about the welcoming customer service that is developed to meet your every demand. Well, of course these things are certain to come to mind when you think of private charters. Various individuals, however, need the service of a private charter jet, for a very simple reason, they are different from everybody else.

Commercial airlines are very much one size fits “normal” whatsoever that may be. So if you are handicapped, too short, too tall, too fat or have something else going on with you like Turrets Syndrome, flying a commercial airline can be more than a burden, it can be an embarrassment.

While it’s nice to say that the airlines will accommodate difficulties such as a woman who is 500 lbs or a person with Turrets, it seriously won’t take place without the awkward glances and hassle that they simply don’t deserve. Private charter jets will professionally accommodate every one of your travel needs; even those that are unique and different.

Everybody pays to fly and therefore they deserve to be treated equally and with respect, regardless of their personal conditions and physical conditions. If you have a handicap or different physical condition, of any kind, then you have probably already experienced the humiliation of flying commercially.

Well, there is an another option where you can fly freely and comfortably to anywhere on the globe no matter what your condition. Private charters will put everything in place for the appropriate flight, whatever you want or require, can be very easily arranged within merely a few short hours. Begin experiencing life to its fullest again, when you fly a private jet charter they will happily make special accommodations if you need them and will treat you with the utmost respect. Nobody deserves anything less than that.

If you, or someone you are traveling with, regards special accommodations then traveling with private jet charters is the best solution for you. When you are flying on a private jet you will be treated with nothing but respect, while your every need is tended to. For more information go to www.privatejetscharter.net.

(Aviation maintenance) In Thailand nicknames are preferred over legal ones

By Shama Kern

Would you mind being called a pig or perhaps a buffalo? I didnt think so. However in Thailand these are common names and there are numerous others that appear strange to our taste. Thai people have first names and surnames same as we do, but generally they contain so many syllables that it is a real challenge for any westerner to repeat or memorize such a name.

This is a somewhat recent phenomenon. In earlier times names in Thailand used to be shorter and easier. Recently it has become fashionable to take on those monstrosities of names. This went so far that the Thais felt compelled to pass a law that limits how many syllables names can contain. This prevented official business transactions from drowning in syllable quicksand. It is quite easy to change your name in Thailand. Dont like it, no problem, pick another one. A simple application will do it.

In Thailand you might plead “please, anything but your real name!” Fortunately most Thais use abbreviations of their real name or nicknames which are at the other end of the spectrum of the multi syllable confusion. In contrast they typically consist of just one syllable or letter. For simplicity’s sake Thais frequently use any one of the syllables of their real name as their nickname. You will find that some of those nicknames strike you as very unusual. There could be Ms Pig, Mr. Buffalo, Mr. Dog, or Ms Bomb. Who comes up with such names? Here are some name stories of Thais whom I know personally.

There are many nicknames that are descriptive in an odd sense. One girl I know is called pig. In western countries that would be very demeaning, but she was given that name since her baby fat reminded her adoring parents of a piglet. In Thailand “pig” is seen as a cute nickname. Of course if ever the girl decides one day that she doesn’t like her nickname anymore, she will be able to simply change it. Another acquaintance of mine is called dog. As a little kid he was constantly peppering everyone with questions and interrupting conversations. His parents found that he resembled an excited puppy, so “dog” it was for him.

Thai nicknames can also be chosen for special powers. One man was always sickly as a boy and could never shake his various illnesses. The people of his village thought that the name “buffalo”, a strong animal, would help him counteract his weak condition. There is even a saying strong as a buffalo. Amazingly his chronic diseases went away and he became a strong, healthy person, true to his name. But before you start calling people “buffalo”, be aware that this is also used as an insulting word. Buffaloes are regarded as stupid and low brained. If Thais want to say something really nasty about someone, they use the expression ‘he is stupid like a buffalo’.

Some nicknames are descriptive in a colorful way. One of my friend’s nickname is “Green”. She ended up with this name since as a baby she supposedly had a greenish complexion, and that became her name. 40 years down the line her skin looks perfectly normal, but she is still Miss Green.

Non-western cultures often place more importance on dreams than we do. A good Thai friend of mine once had a dream. She went to a temple with her sister in law and a monk wanted to give a large beautiful precious stone to her sister in law. She declined the gift and requested that the monk give it to her friend who was very happy to receive it. The day after the dream she realized that she was pregnant. In her mind the dream foretold the pregnancy and therefore she gave the baby the nickname of ‘precious stone’, Ploy. Her sister in law did not want to become pregnant, so the passing of the stone was very symbolic for my friend.

Thais know no limits when it comes to creative nicknames. The son of one of my friends happened to be born during the war between Iran and Iraq. The Thai news agencies published regular stories about all the shooting and bombing. Since she had not been able to settle on a good nickname for her newborn son, she just called him bomb.

There are nicknames which are totally meaningless. Some are merely single letters like O (pronounced Oh) , E (sounds more like the English pronunciation of A), B (pronounced bee) or D (pronounced dee). More recently it is becoming fashionable to use western names like cat or joy as nicknames, as long as they consist of just one syllable.

Not all Thais use nicknames. They use their legal names which in those cases tend to be reasonably pronounceable. In most cases Thais will introduce themselves by their nicknames. Although some of those nicknames appear strange to us, we should count our blessings, since we would have a serious challenge trying to understand or remember those mile-long legal names which are so typical in Thailand.

Now Book Hotels at Lowest Prices

By Vaneesh

Getting discount hotel reservations when you travel is not really that hard when you know how.

Booking early is one of the best ways to get a discount hotel reservation. And the earlier you book you hotel room the more discount you may receive. Hotels manage their reservations to ensure that the hotel books the maximum number of rooms at the maximum room rate possible. And the hotel will certainly make sure that the number of bookings exceeds the hotel’s break even point so that it is profitable. Hotels regularly release blocks of low cost rooms to the market to encourage people to make a reservation. These rooms will only available several months into the future. The hotel will have blocks of medium priced rooms and blocks of high priced rooms. As the demand for rooms increases the hotel “sells” the cheapest rooms first leaving the blocks of higher priced rooms. Also as the demand for rooms increases the hotel will increase their room rates to match the demand.

Booking at the last minute can sometimes result in a significant discount for customers. When a hotel has not received enough bookings to be profitable, then the hotel may release a number of rooms to the market at a discount. However, customers may not be able to book the hotel of their choice. If you are not too fussy about where you stay booking a hotel at the last minute can sometimes work in your favour.

Avoid travel on religious, public or school holidays. There will be increased demand for hotel accommodation which leads to higher room rates. Hotels tend to receive bookings many months in advance giving hotels the chance to maximise their room rates to ensure the hotel is fully booked well before the holiday period.

Avoid travel in Peak Periods such as the middle of summer when visiting a beach resort or island. Likewise, avoiding the middle of winter if going on a skiing holiday. The Greek Islands are a very popular destination during the summer months with the peak during August when the Greeks are on holiday. I visited the Greek Islands during June; there was plenty of affordable accommodation and the weather was beautiful.

Avoid travel during a major event such as The Olympics. For example, when the Sydney 2000 Olympics were being staged I travelled to New Zealand. The number of tourists visiting New Zealand was at a low point and I booked some very good bargains and had the pick of hotels. Also there were no queues at any tourist attractions which makes your holiday so much more enjoyable.

Booking multiple nights at the same hotel often results in a discount for customers. I cannot count the number of times I have booked 3 or 4 nights and received a free night or some other benefit such as a free breakfast every day. Hotels offer this to encourage customers to stay longer as it saves the hotel money. A hotel would rather check-in one customer for five nights than check-in five customers one for each night. The hotel would save substantial check in and out costs, administration costs, cleaning costs advertising and agent booking fees.

Stay during the week and not on weekends can result in a significant discount for customers. This is very evident at entertainment hot-spots such as Las Vegas and Macau where gamblers fly in for the weekend. The hotel rate on Friday and Saturday nights is often double the Sunday to Thursday night rate. Many other international locations also have this weekend premium where travellers arrive for a weekend escape from the city. For example many Londoners travel to Paris for the weekend and many Greeks visit the Greek Islands on the weekends.

Stay a little further away from the centre of the action. When travelling to major cities and attractions, the nearer the hotel to the city or attraction the more you should expect to pay. If booking a hotel in a major city consider staying in the suburb just outside the central business district. If visiting a major tourist attraction, such as Disneyland, consider staying in the next suburb. The down-side, of course, is the extra travel cost but a $10 taxi fare may be a lot cheaper than the extra cost of the hotel room.

Booking on the Internet is the best way for customers to compare and shop for a hotel in any location in the world. There is huge choice for customers meaning huge competition for the hotels which keeps prices low. Also many of the best hotel deals are only released on the internet and are often only available until sold out. The internet allows you to enter your travel dates, check availability, compare prices, view photos of the hotel exterior and interior and read reviews hotel reviews from other travellers.

The booking is made in real-time so you know that once it has been confirmed the booking is complete. Most importantly, making a prepaid reservation will get you the cheapest hotel rates available. As your credit card is charged at the moment you make the booking everything is confirmed and arranged for you immediately.

And once the booking is complete the hotel check-in voucher is sent to your email address and can be printed out for presentation to the hotel on check-in. If you lose your voucher, don’t worry, simply go to your email and print another one. Bookings can be altered or cancelled at any time however if the booking is changed within 72 hours before the check-in date there may be an administration fee charged by the hotel and this will vary from hotel to hotel.

It will provide you with the ultimate travel experience — one you’re sure to remember for years (general aviation) to come.

By Joseph Ware

Everyone visits Paris, Rome, Mexico and the Bahamas. Try something different by vacationing to Antarctica. More and more tourists have come to the frigid continent in the past few years. Though we seem to have forgotten about Antarctica, most school children have studied it.

One option for tourists coming from New York is to fly into Buenos Aires. They could also fly into Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina; this is the southernmost city on the planet. Two days are spent touring and training, then the voyagers head out for the Drake Passage. The 600 miles between South America and Antarctica is known as the Drake Passage. It is a remarkably rough area.

A successful passage through these waters earned early seamen the right to put one foot on the table after dinner was over. And, if he actually was brave enough to travel into the Antarctic Circle itself, he was even allowed to place both feet on the table during the festivities. You?ll still see this tradition with today?s sailors.

The most courageous of travelers, who venture to Antarctica, have earned the right for more than just the opportunity to feed penguins, or leave his initials engraved in an iceberg. This particular tourist itinerary also visits several Argentine and U.S. scientific bases, and Argentine science centers. You?ll see current experiments involving meteorology, glacial and marine biology and earth movement, among others. It is not surprising that these crew members and scientists, have much knowledge to share, and are eager to share information and companionship with visitors.

While on the tour, you will take part in a comprehensive course of scientific research, encompassing everything from geology to marine life. One of the most exciting finds is the fact that one single cubic foot of water in the Antarctic holds more living organisms than waters in any other place in the world. Travelers return to the ship to sleep and then are transported the next day to their excursion sites. During the winter in the United States And summer in Antarctica happen at the same time. The summertime temperature in Antarctica is a balmy 30 degrees with an exhilarating wind nipping at your cheeks. Winters in Antarctica are unbelievably cold, but tour members are given everything that they need to brave the cold, including pants, parkas, and mittens.

You?ll meet sea leopard and elephant seals that can weigh up to two and a half tons each. For those interested, travelers can also witness unique whale graveyards. You may be tempted to take some whale bones are reminders of your trip, but tour guides don?t recommend this. The overweight baggage fees are incredibly stiff on your return flights.

Vacation Homes And Holiday Rentals In Canada

By Jewel Montoya

For the more adventurous and nature lovers, Canada offers some of the best vacationing areas in the world. Winters are wonderful in Canada; with snow clad mountains and skiing “highways”. Adventure and relaxation in cities, parks and mountains of Canada can be an everlasting memory, if planned and budgeted properly.

Most favored vacationing spots in Canada are the British Columbia, Victoria, Alberta, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec and Prince Edward Islands. The majestic coastal mountains of British Columbia house some of the North America’s largest ski resorts, Blackcomb and Whistler Mountain. These towering mountains heighten to about a mile from the valley and are strewn with skiing trails for all levels. They have about 200 trails covering more than 7,000 acres of treacherous mountain terrain.

These skiing trails are often rated high when compared to popular, expensive and always over booked resorts like Colorado, Vail and Aspen. This is due to the magnificent ski slopes and a host of pedestrian-only villages that have multiple shops, restaurants and a variety of nightlife. The best part of the Whistler Resort is its social and community atmosphere. Added to this the value of US dollar in Canada contributes to the attraction of skiers from across the globe.

Glacier National Park is another of the major tourist and vacationing attraction. Known for its breath-taking views of waterfalls, lakes and high mountains and covering about a million acres, this “Crown of the Continent” is very sparsely populated compared to the Yellowstone or Yosemite national parks in the USA. This house of the grizzly is all the more attractive because of the wildlife which is another major attraction for vacationers is Canada. The wildlife spotting in Canada can be exhilarating when one spots a wolf, mountain lion or a Rocky Mountain sheep.

Planning your vacation in Canada can be very easy and low budget considering a host of vacation rentals and private accommodation available across the most sought after tourist destinations.

Many vacation rentals offer a choice of vacation homes, condos, villas, and cabins to meet various needs and tastes of the vacationers. Many of these vacation rentals are also well staffed. Out for offering are pet friendly rentals, vacation rentals on the beach or close to the water, child friendly vacation rentals, vacation homes on a golf course or close to one, ski vacation rentals on the mountain or located close to the chairlift.

Cottages are a preferred mode of vacation rentals in Canada. Many people dive to cottages for the hammock-swaying snoozes, exceptional natural air quality and outdoor pursuits. The distance from millions in a crowded city is to soothe ones nerves in natural surroundings of most of Canada’s known tourist attractions have made them the favorite of vacationers.

Renting a vacation home or cottage is easy, pay the rent for as many weeks as you need. You can rent direct form the owner or through various rental agents strewn all over the place. Choices are easy to make using the book or a brochure available with most agents. The only disadvantage compared to a hotel is that you may end up doing most of the housework, if the vacation home or the private accommodation is not staffed.

The cost of renting or leasing a vacation home or private accommodation is very nominal compared to the cost of hotels. Many owners have turned towards part time renting their properties due to rising cost of real estate and cost of living.

The private accommodation and vacation home renting can bring down your costs of vacationing in the skiing paradise down drastically, allowing you to budget more for your shopping or adventure needs, or even to extend your holiday a little more.

Finding The Beauty Of Costa Blanca In Spain (aviation tools)

By Jewel Montoya

The city of Torrevieja in Spain is located about half way between Alicante and Cartagena. It belongs to the in the Providence of Alicante. The name Torrevieja means old town in English. It offers plenty to do for everyone, singles, couples and families with small children.

The weather in Torrevieja is hot in the summer and mild in the winter. The beautiful summer weather makes this area one of the most popular summer vacation spots in the Costa Blanca area. The city is a popular destination for British, German and Scandinavian tourists as well as visitors from other areas of Spain.

Travelling to the spanish Costa Blanca

Alicante airport is the closest for travelling to Torrevieja. The airport has several large and small carriers that offer a variety of flight options, both within Spain and internationally. Prices for tickets vary according to the season. A few discount airlines fly into this airport, offering great deals on flights.

Once you arrive at the airport, you have several options for travelling to the city. Buses run on fairly regular schedules. Taxis are available to the city. If you prefer not to use public transportation or want the freedom to travel throughout the area, you may want to consider a car rental. Car hire companies are plentiful and most will pick you up at the airport.

Things to do around the area

This area of Spain is known for salt production. There are two huge salt lakes around Torrevieja. These lakes produce about a half a million tons of salt per year. Salt, fishing and tourism are the major industries in the area. The Museum of Sea and Salt offers a look at the history of the major industries in the area.

The natural salt production in the area has other benefits for visitors. The Natural Park of the Lagoons of the Mata offers salt baths. These are relaxing and have health benefits as well. The baths are great for illnesses, such as arthritis and various skin conditions. The park also has plentiful fauna and a variety of exotic birds.

Torrevieja has one of the largest open air markets in Spain. This market is located near the bus station. It offers fresh fruits and vegetables every Friday. There is also a craft market, which may be of interest. The craft market is located close to the harbour. Vendors offer jewellery, carvings and leather goods.

Golf enthusiasts will enjoy playing in Torrevieja. There are many golf courses in the area, such as the Torrevieja Golf Club. Green fees range from thirty five to eighty Euros. The price you will pay depends upon the course you play and the time of year.

Music lovers will find plenty to enjoy in the city. An international music festival is held in the city every year, in late July to early August. The Habanera Festival features choral groups from all over. Music is common in clubs, bars and restaurants.

There are many choices for fun, if you are travelling with children. The Aquopolis Water Park offers rapids, a wave pool, slides, a swimming pool and baby pool for fun in the water. There are water activities for all ages, from infants through adults. The park also has mini golf and restaurants. You can enjoy lunch in the restaurant or bring along a picnic lunch.

Indiana Bills is a soft play park. This park is geared for children under the age of twelve. This is an indoor, air conditioned play area. The kids will have fun climbing, jumping, sliding and crawling. Since it is located indoors, this park is a good choice in bad weather or any season.

The Western MacDonnell Ranges In Central Australia

By Jewel Montoya

The ancient landscape of Western MacDonnell Ranges stretch west from the Central Australian outback town of Alice Springs for over 200 kilometres, forming a rugged red barrier across the vast desert plains of Central Australia. The ranges hold a wealth of spectacular natural features and landscapes, all within an easy hour or two from Alice Springs by car.

The long parallel ridges of the Western MacDonnell Ranges rise up to 600 metres high above the valley floors, cut at regular intervals by deep gorges carved by ancient rivers such as the Finke and Hugh Rivers which meander south to empty into the shimmering red sands of the Simpson Desert. Although situated in an arid desert landscape, the Western MacDonnell Ranges are home to an astonishing variety of unique flora and fauna, including majestic ghost gums and rare relict palms left over from an age when Central Australia enjoyed a wetter tropical environment many thousands of years ago.

The Western MacDonnells are home to a many very popular destinations which are all easily accessible by road from Alice Springs in the course of a day tour. These sites include Simpsons Gap, Standley Chasm, Ellery Creek, Serpentine Gorge, the Ochre Pits, Ormiston Gorge, Redbank Gorge, Glen Helen Gorge, Roma Gorge, Tnorala (Gosse Bluff) and Palm Valley.

Ellery Creek has beautiful clear, deep waters suitable for swimming, but take care when diving in as the water can be extremely cold below the surface. On the opposite side of the Ellery Creek waterhole is a pristine white sandy beach from where it is possible to further explore the gorge. There is also a pleasant walk from the Ellery Creek campsite through higher terrain and back along creek bed to the main waterhole.

Ormiston Gorge is a spectacular sight and one of the Western MacDonnell’s must-see destinations. The towering red rock walls of the gorge are accessible with an easy 1 kilometre walk to the gorge entrance, but there is also an excellent 7 kilometre Ormiston Pound loop track which is well worth the effort during cooler weather or early morning. Serpentine Gorge has an easy 1km walking track from the car park to the gorge entrance. There is also an optional 600 metre track that ascends rugged cliffs to a lookout offering excellent views of the Western MacDonnells.

Glen Helen Gorge is located on the ancient Finke River, reputedly the oldest river in the world that still follows its original course. It is less than 1 kilometre to the lookout, and only slightly further to the rocks at the waterhole. The entrance to the gorge is behind the Glen Helen Homestead, now a comfortable outback hotel and restaurant and a great spot to stop for a meal.

Camping facilities are excellent throughout the Western MacDonnell Ranges, and particularly so at Redbank Gorge. There are two camp areas, the larger Woodlands area being well provisioned with shady camps and cooking facilities, each site having a shady sandy patch under the trees to pitch a tent in an otherwise rocky area. Redbank Gorge is close to Mt Sonder, one of the tallest mountains in Central Australia and the Northern Territory, and a favourite subject of famous aboriginal watercolour artist Albert Namatjira.

West of Redbank Gorge lies Roma Gorge, a great location to visit but overnight camping is not allowed. Access is along a sandy and sometimes rocky creekbed for 8 kilometres, so this is one of the few locations where a four-wheel-drive vehicle is advisable. Roma Gorge is home to an important site rich in high quality Aboriginal rock art. Further west lies Tnorala (Gosse Bluff), a spectacular crater formed when a comet crashed to earth some 140 million years ago. Local indigenous Arrernte legend tells of a baby falling to earth from the heavens at this site during the Dreamtime.

(Aviation) The Eighth Wonder Of The World Called Dubai

By Jewel Montoya

Dubai’s Palm Islands are the world’s largest man-made island clusters. Sometimes they are also called the eight wonder of the world. These are located at three different places across Dubai’s coast, namely Jumeirah, Jebel Ali and Deira. These islands, which are also known as The Palm Dubai or Dubai Palm are layered with rocks and sand upon a ten meter deep seabed. Sand meant for laying down these sites is obtained by dredging in the nearby sea. The Belgian dredging firm Jan De Nul and its Dutch counterpart Van Oord have been supervising the whole operation. Work is in an advanced stage in Jumeirah and Jebel Ali while it has also picked up in the Deira section.

Dredging ships propel sand over an area, which is decided by the coordinates of Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS). This process is called rain-bowing; the name is indicative of the arc which is created due to the falling sand here. Each Dubai Palm has a breakwater constructed at its periphery, which provides it a separation from the murky seawaters. These breakwaters are constructed by laying down several layers of rocks over the seabed by sea vessels. These vessels are called pontoons and the split-hopper barges. The Jumeirah Palm alone required a staggering 7 million tons of rocks to construct its breakwater.

Each of these Dubai Palm Islands is designed to depict a date palm tree, with a trunk, a crown and several fronds. The crescent islands at the periphery are assigned to play the role of breakwaters. The construction of the Palm Jebel Ali was started by Jan De Nul in 2002 and completed by the year-end of 2006. It required a 4 km long peninsula to be built, surrounded by a 200m wide and a 17 km long breakwater. This asked for reclaiming roughly 135,000,000 m of rock, sand and limestone. About 5,000,000 m of rocks were needed for strengthening the slope.

Dubai Palm islands, which are bound to increase Dubai’s costal length by an additional 520 km, will host water theme parks, luxury hotels, shopping malls, freehold villas, furnished beach apartments, health spas and similar other facilities. It was always Sheikh Maktoum’s dream to see Dubai grow in free trade and tourism, and that’s how these islands were conceived. The UAE property developer, Nakheel Properties, is supervising this whole work.

The Palm Jumeirah, which is 5 kilometers by 5 kilometers in size, will have a crown with 17 fronds, and a surrounding 11 kilometer-long breakwater. It will create 4,000 new homes over the period of next 3 to 4 years and add 78 kilometers to Dubai’s shoreline. In fact, the residents began moving into their Palm Jumeirah homes by the year-end 2006, five years after the dredging in the area had begun taking place.

The Palm Jebel Ali, which is expected to be the home of 1.7 million people by the year 2020, will be completed by the year 2008. It will be much larger in size compared to the Palm Jumeirah, however, the tag of largest one will go to the Palm Deira, which is expected to be completed by the year 2015. Due to its mammoth size, the construction of Palm Deira is expected to take place in several phases. Dubai’s tourism sector will heavily rely on these Dubai Palm Islands for its revenue, once they fully got completed.

Ways That One Can Conquer Florence Italy

By Jewel Montoya

Florence Italy accommodation as far as hotel and farmhouse are concerned, let your imagination go from richly furnished five star hotels either in the hub of the city or smaller town accommodations, hidden away in the green hued countryside. From palaces to castles exquisitely decorated and pensions or guesthouses owned by friendly local people. These all year round lodgings have a wide price range but you can assured that good bargains are to be found in the low season. Florence welcomes everybody to be comfortable and caters to everyone’s budget.

Wealth and Comfort in Florence Italy

The Savoy Hotel is a favourite for those wishing to fulfil a desire for luxury sleeping, not forgetting the shopping gallery and excellent cuisine at the restaurant. The Hotel II Guelfo Bianco on the Via Cavour right near the San Marco Square has antique art treasures and original paintings and excellent commodities. Or maybe a stay at the Grand Hotel Baglioni with its sweeping grey stone stairway so typical of many Florentine monuments and wooden beams decorating the ceiling all which give you that special feeling of peace and relax.

Florence city needs to be visited during an extended period of time and if this is not feasible, then short visits are ideal to take in all the museums. And for me, one of the best ways to do this is by staying in a small town farmhouse near Florence and with your Florence car rental, enjoy small joints into the city. One of the cutest medieval towns nearby is San Gimignano, situated in the triangle of Siena, Florence and Volterra. San Gimignano is undoubtedly known for its thirteen remaining towers of the original seventy-two which once existed. Here, you can have sweet dreams sleeping in a mansion from the 14th century and have breakfast in a precious patio. Or in a rural house with high ceilings and worked iron beds.

Praise Good Italian Cooking

At some of these farmhouses there are cookery classes and it is here where I learned to cook Stracotto or ‘Pot Roast’. This is a very popular weekend Sunday meal in Italy as well as in Great Britain and North America. The Italians serve it over a delicious noodles bed of pasta enriched with the Chianti wine sauce where the others serve it with potatoes. Here goes……

Stracotto (serves 4-6 persons)

- 3 to 4 lbs. top round beef

- 4 thinly sliced garlic cloves

- 3 medium thinly sliced carrots

- 3 medium diced onions

- rosemary leaves

- 2 cut up celery stalks

- 2 cups water

- 1 lb. ripe tomatoes ( peel, seed and cut them )

- 1 fourth cup olive oil

- 1 and a half cup Chianti or dry red wine

- 1 tbsp. melted butter

- 1 tbsp. flour

- salt and pepper as you like

- 1 lb. pasta of your choice

Roll and tie up beef and then make small holes to put the garlic into.

In a saucepan, heat the oil and slowly cook the carrots, onions and celery until soft and add in the rosemary. Push these vegetables to one side and put the beef roll in the middle and brown on all sides at the same time as you are sauting the veggies. Add in the tomatoes and when they are getting soft, add the wine. Boil until the wine liquid has been consumed to about one half cup and add 1 and a half cup of water and let simmer for about 1 hour more. Separate the meat and vegetables from the broth and let the meat cool. With remaining half cup of water mix the flour and the melted butter in with the broth and cook, constantly stirring it for 3 minutes. Slice meat and put the pasta and the sauce in the middle of the plate and two or three meat slices to one side and top with some more sauce if desired. Bon appetite!

This is just one of the Florence Italy recipes that I learned. Stay tuned for more!
