(General aviation) Travel Sites Can Help You On Your Annual Vacation
No commentsBy Michael Hehn
We all love our annual vacation but there are those that never go too far from home and then you find the adventurous types that will travel the world. But, wherever you want to travel to, you can guarantee there will be a travel site that can give you details on every location. Let’s face it, when you can book whatever vacation you like using a website, why bother going to a travel agent. Generally travel agents cannot compete, at least financially, with the wealth of sites that can offer amazing discounts.
It may seem strange but I do not fully trust using the internet to arrange my vacation. However, I am still of the old school and prefer to sit down with a cup of coffee and plan my vacation with a professional, face to face. A travel agent will also fully expect changes to be made during the booking process and can be more flexible in their approach including when there are problems. The problem I find with travel sites is there is no-one to speak to and I find this very impersonal; if you are fortunate enough to find someone to speak with they may be in another country for all you know.
Even if you are lucky enough to talk to a person, how do you know they are telling you the truth about the situation? It is this fear of the problems that can occur and if they do happen it is too late that prevents me from being more trusting in the way that I trust my travel agent. One of my friends only ever uses the travel sites to book her vacations but she does like the last minute discounts that can be found which are much easier to find using the internet. When last minute vacations come up, you can end up saving a lot of money and she’s gotten some wonderful vacations for almost half the cost.
It would be nice to do this but my career does not allow for impulsive travel arrangements. Using a travel site does have other advantages as well because while you can save money on the vacation itself, there are also savings to be made on additional excursions and trips as well if pre-booked. Knowing a little about what you want and information about the location you want to travel too can be useful so I still research as much of this as I can online before I pay my travel agent a visit. I know it may seem unkind after all the help that my travel agent has given me but I know that if I have problems that need correcting when I return, it is easy to go along and see her to have sorted out.

Tips For Buying A Wheelchair Minivan
By Jerry Glynn
Buying a wheelchair minivan will increase your mobility and provide you with an added sense of freedom. When you begin looking at vans for sale, whether new or refurbished, you will probably be surprised to learn just how many different manufacturers and types exist.
Wheelchair seating is available in the front driver and passenger areas, and in the mid-passenger center section of the vehicle. The goal of the lowered-floor minivan is to give wheelchair users the convenience of a minivan, along with plenty of headroom and the ease of using a simple ramp to access the vehicle. Simply drive onto the platform. As the lift is operated, the scooter is raised and securely clamped without additional tie-downs. For example, you need to check if the wheelchair lift has a back-up lifting or lowering mechanism should the main drive system fail. Once you’ve sorted out your needs, it’s easier to choose between these advanced mobility systems.
Several different configurations are possible, including wheelchair placement alone in the back of the van, as the front passenger seat, to replace the driver’s seat or as part of the seating in the rear of the van. Certain cities or states require one or the other configuration, so make sure to find out what the rules are in your locality before purchasing.
The most important thing is to make sure that the vehicle you choose works with your wheelchair. Plan on loading and unloading it and make sure that you familiarize yourself with the different types of ramps and lifts. Ramps provide an easy transition into the vehicle, commonly with a slope of 5-degrees or less, readily accessible by powerchairs or manual wheelchairs. While fold-up ramps are practical in both power and non-powered versions, in-floor ramps are increasingly popular, as, when stowed, they don’t block the door for other passengers.
Wheelchair lifts are also referred to as platform lifts, which are actually streamlined versions of elevators engineered to move a wheelchair two meters or less. In addition, they are designed to handle just one person in a wheelchair at a time with a weight limit of 750 lbs. Wheelchair lifts are not only space-efficient, they also are easy to navigate and operate. Because they are less complex than elevators, wheelchair lifts can be installed and maintained for a lower cost.
Regardless of the type of wheelchair accessible minivan configuration that you choose, whether you opt for a vehicle with a ramp or lift built in, or for one that is equipped to handle either one for occasional use, be sure to shop around and make sure that your new vehicle is a good fit for both your needs and the wheelchairs that it will be transporting
